Week 7 newsletter for term 4!
After a sobering event last week with the earthquakes in Kaikoura and Wellington, it is important to reflect on how blessed we are. For those of you who have had friends or family impacted by the recent events, our thoughts are with you and yours. The photos available online of the changes to the landscape and coast are simply difficult to fathom and have created some great discussions in the classrooms about the power of the Earth. Some of our classes have used these images and discussions to support some great writing and I was lucky to have some Year 1 children share their great writing with me in the office late last week.
We have yet another busy week ahead with Bike Wise for our seniors, Hub 3 attending their Surf Lifesaving Beach Education day on Tuesday, as well as our Year 6 trip to Tauranga Intermediate, and on Thursday our Kapa Haka team will head to St Mary’s School for this years Ra Whakangahau. After seeing the stunning performance at last weeks Noho Marae all of the audience are going to be blown away by our school once again. We wish everyone involved all the best and also thanks all of the teachers involved for the many hours that go into preparing for this event, and also the whanau for your support on the day.
ORANGE DAY – BACK TO BACK SUCCESS
Last Friday our senior Road Patrol students attended the end of year “Orange Day” celebration hosted by the Police. Each year on this day schools create a banner promoting a road safety message and these banners are paraded and judged with a winner announced at the end of the day. For the second year running Welcome bay School have taken out the top prize and won the Orange Day banner competition! Well done kids and their support team who worked so hard on this banner and came up with a great safety slogan.
Thanks PTA
At last weeks assembly, on behalf of the PTA, Mr Martin presented our school with a beautiful new guitar. This will be used for our Kapa haka team, but also a variety of other musical ventures ahead. We would like to thank our amazing PTA for all of the time and effort they invest in raising funds that go directly back into our school and children. Thanks so much!

Due to a number of clashes we have had to change the Junior athletics date to Tuesday 29th November. This is another reminder to the note that was sent home last week, we are sorry for any inconveniences with the change of date.
Pool Key Meeting
As mentioned previously, we have planned a meeting for all of those families wishing to utilise our school pool for the summer. This meeting will be at 5pm on Wednesday 23rd November. It is the expectation of the Board of Trustees that if you would like a Pool Key you must attend this meeting. Pool keys are leased out to our school community members for $55 each.
