Week 4 newsletter for term 4!
It was nice to have a short week last week but it sure did fly by! We have a big week ahead and are hopeful that the weather is going to support our plans.
Congratulations and ka kite ano!
It is with mixed emotions that we say fare thee well to our colleague and friend Mrs Hansen. From the time Mrs Hansen began at Welcome Bay School we knew she was an aspiring leader, hence her initial appointment. Mrs Hansen joined us 4 years ago and has had such an impact in the life of our school. She has been an important part of our school leadership team, has been such a champion for our developments in collaborative practice, has added a great deal to building teacher and student capacity in terms of e-learning, she supported Whaea Mem in Kapa haka and even learnt to karanga at our school whakatau. Mrs Hansen is a learner herself and has worked so hard to continue to develop herself, she has recently just won the Deputy Principal role at Remarkables Primary School in Queenstown!
Whilst we will miss Mrs Hansen, we are very proud of her and all she has contributed and learnt during her time at our school. We know she will embrace and thoroughly enjoy all of the new challenges ahead and we look forward to hearing about her journey and new adventures in Queenstown. Compulsory bungee jump ahead!
Senior Athletics this week
On Thursday we are holding the Middle and Senior School Athletics event. It is always a great day for our children to dress up in their HOUSE colours and give their very best effort. Remember to send kids along with their sunhats, a good lunch and drink bottle.
When: Thursday 3rd November beginning 9:15am
Where: Welcome Bay School field
Postponement date: Thursday 10th November
Program for the day: Please note times are approximate only, the time table may be sped up if the weather is looking unreliable.
2017 Senior Camp meeting
We also have the first meeting in planning for our 2017 Senior Camp tonight (Tuesday 1 November). This is for parents of students who will be attending camp next year to provide some information as to where, when, who, how and so on. This meeting will be held in Room Rimu and starts at 5:30pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
Made it with an i-pad!!!
At last weeks assembly we celebrated the winners across each Hub for the “Made it with an I-pad” competition that students were working on last term. The theme was “Have a Heart” and the children could make movies or use apps like Puppet Pal to create a presentation. We had some amazing entries and all of the children learnt skills involved in collaborating as they worked together to create their presentations. We can’t wait to do this again sometime as it was so great to see our children shine in their creativity and using technology to create rather than being consumers. Thanks to all of the teachers for their hard work in supporting kids in their learning, and to the e-learning team who came up with the idea and then gave it life!
Pool Key meeting
As mentioned last week we have planned a meeting for all of those families wishing to utilise our school pool for the summer. This meeting will be at 5pm on Wednesday 23rd November. It is the expectation of the Board of Trustees that if you would like a Pool Key you must attend this meeting. Pool keys are leased out to our school community members for $55 each.
