Week 2 newsletter for term 4!
Our first week for the term absolutely flew by and was a very positive week. Our tamariki came back settled and ready for the terms learning. It was also lovely to see some sunshine after 2 weeks of continuous inclement weather. Our school grounds are saturated and our field had to be closed for a few days to allow some of the saturation drain away, fingers crossed for some continued fine weather as we progress through the term.
Our first assembly for the term was also outstanding, almost getting a 9 out of 10, and two Houses winning points for their amazing respect and participation as an audience. We look forward to seeing how our House groups get on as we progress through the term. Children can win points for their House in a variety of ways from getting small recognition from HEART Cards in class or the playground, which are worth 1 pt, through to getting a Power Card, which is worth 10 pts. Teachers only get 5 Power Cards to give away per week and they are given for a wide range of things from children achieving their learning goals to supporting a friend in their learning, or making great choices as a role model. When a child gets a Power card they come over to the office area so that someone from the administration block can celebrate it with them, then they put it into their House Power Card box where it can be drawn for a special prize during or at the end of the term.
The term is already shaping up to be very busy so make sure you check out the Upcoming events page to see what is happening so that you can plan if your child/ren are involved. It is always great to have you involved in events as whanau and our children always love to stand proud in their achievements with whanau supporting.
New Security System
The Board of Trustees (and Mr Martin) are very excited to be investing in a new, HD, security camera system to ensure that our school site is really safe during and after hours. We have a huge amount of resource on our school site and want to make sure that our children and community are safe when using our resources, and also that we do not have to fix things, or unnecessarily spend money due to vandalism. While this has not been a major concern in recent years, we want to ensure that all who enter our grounds know that their choices are visible, and we want our school to be respected.
Pool Key meeting
As mentioned last week we have planned a meeting for all of those families wishing to utilise our school pool for the summer. This meeting will be at 5pm on Wednesday 23rd November. It is the expectation of the Board of Trustees that if you would like a Pool Key you must attend this meeting. Pool keys are leased out to our school community members for $55 each.
PTA Meeting
New Website and newsletter format
Remember to share with everyone you know about the newsletter format, we had a 50% open rate last week from 149 families and it would be great to grow this each week. Remember you can access the newsletter via an email link or directly through our website via the “Our school information” drop down menu.
Have a great week.
Kindest regards,
Nik House – Principal
