Already one week has passed by very quickly in what is only a 9 week term. It was a really nice first week back to school for the term, albeit very wet and windy. We are looking forward to some sunshine for our kids to get outside and burn off some energy, although the coming week is also set to be quite wet!
Last week we welcomed some very special visitors to our school all the way from China. We have a close relationship with the University of Waikato through having student teachers and this opportunity has arisen through 10 education students visiting from China. The students are all being billeted out by teachers from school for 3 weeks, and last week spent their days at the Tauranga Uni campus. This week they are going to be based at Welcome Bay School working in classrooms and will also be out and about at times doing some local activities. We are really lucky to have this opportunity and it is great for our children to experience diversity. Make sure you give our visitors a big Welcome Bay smile if you see them around. I would also like to thank Mrs Keys for working hard to make this opportunity happen and to all the teachers for opening their homes to our guests for 3 weeks 🙂
Don’t forget to book in your Learning Catch Up!
Learning Catch Ups online booking
We will be holding “Learning Catch Up” meetings for parents to come and meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their life and learning at school.
The School Interviews webpage for making online bookings with teachers is now active. Please go online to book a time with your child’s teacher allowing half and hour for the Learning Catch Up.
To make a booking please go online and visit the School Interveiws webpage (schoolinterviews.co.nz) The Code for our school is pvxu6. Once on the site you just need to find your classroom teacher and allocate a time that will suit you and your family.
NOTE: Where there is more than one teacher in a room there are two classrooms set up. If you cannot get a booking in one, open the other to check availability.
If you cannot access the school interviews online please phone Cherie in the school office (5441113), or ask your child’s teachers, and we can support you in making a time. Also if you have more than one child it would be advisable to book as early as possible to ensure your times are as convenient as possible.
WHEN? These are on Tuesday 9th August (3:15pm – 7pm) and Wednesday 10th August (8am – 5pm) in week 3.
NOTE: On Wednesday 10th August we will be holding our “Learning Catch Ups” for parents and children. School will be open for the booked appointments with teachers, but we encourage children to stay at home for the day. We will provide an alternative learning programme for children who are unable to be catered for at home. We really appreciate your support in this so that we can provide the best opportunity to value the time we have with you and your child. Tuesday will be school as usual with “Learning Catch Ups” starting after school.
In Week 3, the Scholastic Book fair is once again returning to WBS (August 10 th – 15 th ). This is a special event that stretches over a few days, that enables parents to purchase good quality books at a reasonable price while at the same time, helping to raise funds for the school library – as the school gets a percentage from each book sale. There will be a good variety of books on display for purchase so there is certain to be something to stimulate interest for all young readers. The Book Fair week is coinciding with the Learning Catch-Ups and will therefore be open all day Wednesday 11 th . Why not pop in to view the books while you are in for your meeting.
We will be looking for helpers during the Book Fair week, to help on the cashier desk during the opening times mentioned below – if you are available to help out, even for some of the time, we would love to hear from you. Please let the office know of your availability or email email@example.com
