So there we have it, term two over already!!! What a frosty weekend and start to the week we have had with some of the lowest temperatures recorded across the country so far! We hope our families are keeping warm and maintaining health and wellness.
It has been a very busy and productive term with a whole lot of sports activities and events, the beginning of the winter sport codes, and a rather competitive inter-House competition of Dodgeball. We have also been very busy in terms of assessment and reporting to support our decisions when reporting on student progress and achievement. We work really hard in preparing our written reports to show that we know your child both personally and academically and are always looking for ways to capture this information. We hope you enjoy reading through your child’s written report.
We are proud of our school and are trying really hard to continue creating a safe and attractive environment for our tamariki to live and learn. From time to time we have some disrespectful individuals or groups who do not treat our school with respect. When people damage our school in any way it always costs us, which is so wasteful as we want to be able to put as much of our school funds into kids and their learning, not repairing property that has been mindlessly damaged.
Although vandalism incidents are much less than they used to be, we still experience some challenges regarding our school property in the weekends. As our community, we are asking you to continue to keep an eye on our school and report any suspicious or unusual activity at the time it is occurring. Please call the Police anytime when you see or hear any suspicious activity at our school. Call the Tauranga South Police Watchhouse, 5783460 between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday, or the Tauranga Police Station at all other times, 5774300.
If you have any information that might help the Police catch the offenders please contact 0800 SPEAKUP/0800773258. Many thanks.0800773258. Many thanks.
With the holidays just around the corner we wish you a very safe and happy family time. Being the time of year when there are often lots of bugs affecting health, the break is a good time to rest up and get ready for the term ahead.
Reporting on Student Achievement
All of the teachers have been working really hard over the term collecting a wide range of data to inform teaching and learning programmes, and also to assist in writing reports and updating learning portfolio information regarding achievement and progress.
We will be sending home the mid year written reports at the end of the week. This is supported by your child’s learning portfolio and is a summary of their learning levels against National Standards. Our core beliefs regarding reporting to parents at WBS are that teachers can demonstrate that they know your child both as a person, and academically.
The written report is followed by a Learning Catch up in term three, which is a scheduled time you can come into school to meet formally with your child’s teachers and talk about their life and learning at school. This happens early in the following term so the information from the report is still “fresh” and we can discuss your child with some information to support us moving forward. We look forward to these opportunities to meet with you as we know that a positive home and school partnership leads to greater success for kids at school.
Learning Catch Ups online booking
The School Interviews webpage for making online bookings with teachers is now active. PLease go online to book a time with your child’s teacher allowing half and hour for the Learning Catch Up.
To make a booking please go online and visit the School Interveiws webpage (schoolinterviews.co.nz) The Code for our school is pvxu6. Once on the site you just need to find your classroom teacher and allocate a time that will suit you and your family.
NOTE: Where there is more than one teacher in a room there are two classrooms set up. If you cannot get a booking in one, open the other to check availability.
If you cannot access the school interviews online please phone Cherie in the school office (5441113) and we can support you in making a time. Also if you have more than one child it would be advisable to book as early as possible to ensure your times are as convenient as possible.
WHEN? We will be holding “Learning Catch Up” meetings for parents to come and meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their life and learning at school.
These are on Tuesday 9th August (3:15pm – 7pm) and Wednesday 10th August (8am – 5pm) in week 3.
NOTE: On Wednesday 10th August we will be holding our “Learning Catch Ups” for parents and children. School will be open for the booked appointments with teachers, but we encourage children to stay at home for the day. We will provide an alternative learning programme for children who are unable to be catered for at home. We really appreciate your support in this so that we can provide the best opportunity to value the time we have with you and your child. Tuesday will be school as usual with “Learning Catch Ups” starting after school.
