Weekly Welcome 22/6/16

Welcome back to another week of life and learning at Welcome Bay School.  The term is racing by and we have just three weeks left until the end of the term.

Reporting on Student Achievement

All of the teachers have been working really hard over the term collecting a wide range of data to inform teaching and learning programmes, and also to assist in writing reports and updating learning portfolio information regarding achievement and progress.

At the end of the term we will be sending home the mid year written reports.  This is supported by your child’s learning portfolio and is a summary of their learning levels against National Standards.  Our core beliefs regarding reporting to parents at WBS are that teachers can demonstrate that they know your child both as a person, and academically.

The written report is followed by a Learning Catch up in term three, which is a scheduled time you can come into school to meet formally with your child’s teachers and talk about their life and learning at school.  This happens early in the following term so the information from the report is still “fresh” and we can discuss your child with some information to support us moving forward.  We look forward to these opportunities to meet with you as we know that a positive home and school partnership leads to greater success for kids at school.

Learning Catch Ups online booking

These will be made available from next week, which will allow 6 weeks for you to go online and book a time with your child’s teacher/s.

Each parent/child will be allocated approx half an hour in the classroom.  This will include 15 minutes with your child sharing their learning and environment, and 15 minutes with the teacher.

If you are unable to access the school interviews online please phone Cherie in the school office (5441113) and we can support you in making a time. Also if you have more than one child it would be advisable to book as early as possible to ensure your times are as convenient as possible.

WHOLE SCHOOL DISCO – Thursday 23 June 2016

Full details are out  including flyers and permission slips. It is extremely important that the permission slips are returned to school. Children will not be able to attend the Disco without parent consent and a commitment to pick your child up at the end of the Disco.  No child is allowed to leave the hall, walk home, or even out to meet their parent at a car.  All children must be collected from the hall after the Disco is over.  This is about their safety and we appreciate your understanding.  Please make sure all forms are returned by Thursday morning at the latest.

New Website and newsletter format

Remember to share with everyone you know about the newsletter format, we had a 50% open rate last week from 149 families and it would be great to grow this each week.  Remember you can access the newsletter via an email link or directly through our website via the “Our school information” drop down menu.

Have a great week.

Kindest regards,

Nik House – Principal
