Weekly Welcome #16

It is hard to fathom that at the end of this week we are already half way through the term, which is 10 weeks in total.  At last week’s assembly a group of boys were acknowledged for their special project that they worked on with Matua Matt since last year.  The outcome of the project was that they built a “Powerbird HQ” for the junior playground, which looks great as seen in the photo.  The project meant that the boys worked with Matua Matt to plan the build and were supported by Mr Keys at BoP Polytech who teaches all of the students who want to train to be builders.  This provided a truly authentic learning experience for the boys and they worked hard as a team to complete the project.  We are so proud of how the boys worked together to complete the project as a gift for the Junior school.

Teacher Only Day – No school

We have had our Teacher Only Day advertised in the newsletter since last term but just want to remind all parents and whanau that on Tuesday 7th June all staff will be attending a day of professional learning combined with 3 other schools.  There will be no staff onsite and there will be no alternative programme available.  We have also sent home a paper copy of this notice earlier in the week to ensure that everyone is aware that school will be closed. Thanks.

School Hangi

We have changed the organisation for our school hangi. The hangi will now be free! We will no longer be selling individual trays. The hangi is planned to take place on Friday 10th June – your child still needs a packed lunch on this day.  We are also needing donations of vegetables and firewood 🙂

Cross Country

Last Thursday the weather decided to cut us some slack and provided a lovely break in the rain for us to hold our school cross country event.  We would like to thank all of the parents and whanau who came along to support our children running.  We were really proud of our kids as they showed determination to finish the race and give every bit of energy and effort into the process.  We also loved seeing the high level of encouragement and support those children received from their peers at the home stretch as they dug deep to finish the race.  Photos are attached 😉
